eXist (database)
eXist is a native XML database distributed as free software under the GNU Lesser General Public License . eXist runs within a Java Virtual Machine and is therefore completely independent of the operating system used .
Data is represented in XML as a structured tree (not in tabular form, as is common in relational databases , for example ). You can move within this tree with XQuery , the query language for XML documents. eXist saves an XML document internally as a B + tree .
