E Mare Libertas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

E Mare Libertas ( Latin , in German about "Freedom from the Sea") is the national motto and the name of the national anthem of the micronation Sealand .

There is only the melody for the national anthem, no lyrics. It was composed by the London-based Basil Simonenko.

E Mar i Libertas?

E Mare Libertas uses the little known subsidiary form mare as an ablative of mare = sea. The normal form of the ablative would be mari , E Mari Libertas would be “more correct”. The ablative mare can be found among others in Ovid ( Ars amatoria 3, 94 et al.). So E Mare Libertas is not wrong.
