Earl Jowitt
Earl Jowitt was a hereditary title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on December 24, 1951 for the lawyer and Labor politician William Allen Jowitt, 1st Viscount Jowitt , on the occasion of his resignation from the office of Lord Chancellor .
He had already been promoted to Baron Jowitt , of Stevenage in the County of Hertford on August 2, 1945 , and Viscount Jowitt , of Stevenage in the County of Hertford on January 20, 1947 . These titles also belonged to the Peerage of the United Kingdom and were henceforth listed as a subordinate title of the Earldom.
Since the 1st Earl remained childless, the titles expired on his death on August 16, 1957.
