Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham

Marquess of Rockingham , in the County of Northampton , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Great Britain .

Award

The title was created on April 19, 1746 for Thomas Watson-Wentworth, 1st Earl of Malton .

He had already been raised to Baron Malton on May 28, 1728 and on November 19, 1733 to Earl of Malton , Viscount Higham , Baron Harrowden and Baron Wath . These titles also belonged to the Peerage of Great Britain.

From his second nephew he had inherited the titles Baron Rockingham and Baronet , of Rockingham Castle in the County of Northampton in 1746 , which were in the Baronetage of England in 1621 and in the Peerage of England on January 29, 1645 for his great-great-grandfather Lewis Watson were created.

The grandson of the 1st Baron Rockingham, the 3rd Baron, was raised to Earl of Rockingham on October 19, 1714 in the Peerage of Great Britain , with the other subordinate titles Viscount Sondes and Baron Throwley . These three titles expired on the death of his grandson, the 3rd Earl. The Baronetcy and Barony Rockingham fell to his second uncle, the later 1st Marquess mentioned above.

His son, who later became the 2nd Marquess, was awarded the title Earl Malton and Baron Malton on September 17, 1750 in the Peerage of Ireland . When his father died on December 14, 1750, he also inherited the marquessate and the subordinate titles. With the death of the 2nd Marquess on July 2, 1782, all his titles expired.
