Earl of Avon

Earl of Avon was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was created on July 12, 1961 for former Prime Minister Sir Robert Anthony Eden . Along with the earliest title, he was given the subordinate title Viscount Eden, of Royal Leamington Spa in the County of Warwick .

The titles expired when his only surviving son, the 2nd Earl, died childless on August 17, 1985.
