Earl of Cottenham
Earl of Cottenham , of Cottenham in the County of Cambridge , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on June 11, 1850 for Charles Pepys, 1st Baron Cottenham , on the occasion of his retirement as Lord Chancellor . Together with the Earldom he was given the subordinate title Viscount Crowhurst , of Crowhurst, in the County of Surrey . Already on January 20, 1836, he had been raised to Baron Cottenham , of Cottenham in the County of Cambridge, also in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
