Earl of Grantham

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Earl of Grantham was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England . The title refers to the town of Grantham in Lincolnshire .

Award and subordinate titles

King Wilhelm III. awarded the title on December 24, 1698 to his third degree nephew, Heinrich von Nassau-Ouwerkerk , the son of Field Marshal Heinrich von Nassau-Ouwerkerk (1641–1708). Together with the Earldom he was awarded the subordinate titles Viscount Boston and Baron of Alford . The titles were awarded with the special addition that they could also be passed on to his brother Wilhelm Moritz, Herr von Ouwerkerk, and his male descendants. When Heinrich died in 1753, Heinrich inherited his Dutch title, Herr von Ouwerkerk .

Since neither the 1st Earl nor his brother left male heirs, the titles expired on his death on December 5, 1754.
