Earl of Wilmington
Earl of Wilmington was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Great Britain .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on May 14, 1730 for the Lord President of the Council and later Prime Minister Spencer Compton, 1st Baron Wilmington . Along with the earliest title, he was given the subordinate title Viscount Pevensey . As early as January 8, 1728 he had been given the title of Baron Wilmington , of Wilmington in the County of Sussex .
The titles expired when the first earl died on July 2, 1743, unmarried and childless.
