Early Christianity (abbreviation: EC) is a theological journal. It is published by Mohr Siebeck Verlag in Tübingen. The print run is 800 copies. The first volume was published in 2010.

content

The subject of the journal is early Christianity as a historical phenomenon . The designation " early Christianity " is intended to signal that the diversity of those aspects should come into view that concern the emergence of Christian scriptures, primarily of the first two centuries, their reception and the emergence of a corpus of binding texts for the Christian church. In this way, not least, the distinction between “ canonical ” and “ apocryphal ” scriptures is addressed. The magazine focuses on a wide range of individual aspects - such as the formation of Christian communities in an ancient context, forms of social life, communication channels and forms, potential for conflict and remnants of material culture. In this way, the production and reception of New Testament texts should be placed in the wider context of the development of Christianity in religious, cultural and social terms.

Frequency of publication

"Early Christianity" appears quarterly. Each booklet contains four or five essays, at least one of which is written in German. In addition, the booklets contain sections on “New books”, “New discoveries” and “New projects”, which provide information on current developments in the field of New Testament science and research into early Christianity. Each issue is the responsibility of one of the editors, every second issue is dedicated to a specific topic.
