The Eastern Polytechnic is one of three tertiary educational institutions in Sierra Leone . It emerged in 2001 from the Bunumbu Teachers College and the Government Technical Institute. As a polytechnic, she takes on tasks similar to those at a technical college in Germany.

history

The Eastern Polytechnic emerged from the two independent colleges for teacher training (Bunumbu Teachers College), founded in 1924 as an educational institution of the Methodist Mission and the Technical Government Institute (founded in 1957).

The main purpose of the two facilities was to train teachers and technicians. Today's Eastern Polytechnic has taken on these tasks and also trains mechanics and other professional groups.

management

The college is run by a rector with the support of a vice chancellor and administrative staff. In theory, these are presided over by a council with a council chairman appointed by the Ministry of Education.

Campus & student life

The Eastern Polytechnic was created as a multicampus facility. Teaching takes place on the three campuses in Kenema , Woama and Bunumbu . The Bunumbu campus was completely destroyed by the rebels during the civil war between 1999 and 2001. Currently, all 1,500 students (2007) are taught in Kenema.
