Eberron

Eberron is a fictional campaign world in the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons , which was invented by Keith Baker .

Background to the campaign world Eberron

Eberron is based on a campaign concept by Keith Baker, which was selected from over 11,000 entries in a competition at Wizards of the Coast . The flair is a bit darker than in the classic worlds, magical high-tech can be found as well as the city of Sharn with its magically created skyscrapers. Adventure in the form of an agent thriller should be just as possible in this game world as classic hack-n-slay monster hunts; in addition to exploring old ruins, there are also political intrigues to be mastered. The German translation is published by Feder und Schwert .

Races

In addition to the peoples of the basic game (half-orcs, elves, halflings, gnomes and so on), four new playable races have been added.

Changeling (half shapeshifter)

Changelings were created by mixing people and doppelgangers. Your skills as a shapeshifter are therefore not quite as pronounced as with pure shapeshifters; however, it is enough to disguise your identity. Excellent spies and criminals come from the ranks of the changeling.

Kalashtar (humanoids in symbiosis with a spirit from the plane of dreams)

Kalashtar are a people formed from two beings. Entities from another plane (Dal Quor) took possession of human bodies and souls and merged with them. The entities were called Quori. The merger resulted in the Kalashtar, a breed that differs significantly from the two original breeds. Today Kalashtars "arise" naturally through the union of two Kalashtar parents and no longer through the occupation of one body. Kalashtars are psychic gifted.

In order to be able to use the Kalashtar completely in an Eberron campaign (SC or NSC) you should be in possession of the PSI manual.

Converter (semi-were)

The converters are descendants of humans and real lycanthropes (see lycanthropy ). Converters are not able to fully assume an animal shape, but they are nevertheless able to assume animal traits and characteristics. The converters themselves refer to this as converting. In Khorvaire the converters are sometimes referred to as Werkindians .

Warforged (Living Constructs)

Warforged, as their name suggests, was originally created for the long war as pure constructs, without the skills for complex thinking. Through the constant production and the equally constant attempt to improve the constructs in order to improve the fighting qualities, unexpected side effects arose. The constructs developed a free will, the ability to think and a consciousness. At the end of the development, which was also marked by the end of the last war, there was a completely new breed, namely "living constructs".

Classes

The Eberron Campaign Book introduces a new basic class to the classes from the player's manual (villain, magician, fighter and so on), the magic smith. Magic smiths use magic in a different way than magicians or sorcerers, they cannot cast spells directly, but instead transform raw magical energy into objects in order to enchant them or to create constructs. Furthermore, certain new NPC classes will be revised (Adept) or newly created (Magic Workers)

history

Almost all of Khorvaire was united under the banner of the Kingdom of Galifar for over 900 years, divided into five nations ruled by the descendants of the king. The eldest of the descendants became the new king after the king's death or abdication. About 100 years ago a war broke out ("The Last War") because after the death of King Jarot several of his descendants named themselves the new king and did not recognize the rule of the others. After 100 years of war, one of the countries (Cyre) was completely destroyed by a magical catastrophe of unknown origin. The leaders of the other nations were so shocked by this event that they came together for peace talks. Although they don't trust each other and are ready to strike again at any time, the peace still holds.

The game world is divided into several continents:

Khorvaire

A major part of the storyline takes place here, as all game races occur here. The continent is divided into several countries. As usual in most role-playing games, Khorvaire as the main location of the game also covers a wide geographical range, from tropical forests in southern Breland to cool, temperate mountains in the northeast of the continent. The political formation of the continent is just as diverse, from theocracies to parliamentary monarchies to dictatorships by monster peoples, almost all D&D social systems are represented. The largest city on the continent is the Brandenburg metropolis of Sharn, which is reminiscent of magical New York.

Aerenal

Aerenal is only inhabited by elves and is difficult to access for other races. It is a predominantly tropical island continent that includes landscape features from jungles to savannas. The entire continent is inhabited by elves who follow a strong ancestral cult. This goes so far that the most powerful political force on the continent is the court of the deathless, well-meaning elven undead who are worshiped by their descendants.

Xen'Drik

Xen'Drik is home to wild giants and hides many ruins of perished cultures. The (wild) dark elves Eberrons also live there, also known as drow in other campaign sets .

Sarlona

This is the home of the Kalashtar.

Argon food

Argonessen is the continent of dragons.

The attitude is abbreviated with R for righteous, C for chaotic, N for neutral, G for good and B for bad.

The Divine Host

This is the most popular religion in Eberron. Most citizens worship all gods equally and direct their prayers to individual gods depending on the situation.

Church of the Silver Flame

The Church of the Silver Flame is a very aggressive church that nearly wiped out converters and lycanthropes in its campaign. (RG)

Blood of the vol

The Blood of the Vol is a cult that arose from the 13th house when it was destroyed. His followers revere blood as the true essence of immortality. Undead play a large part in the cult, but are pitied because they can never attain true purity. (RN)

The cults of the dragon of the deep

This cult worships the dragon of the deep, Khyber. Khyber was banished to the underworld or the depths of the earth at creation and gave birth to all demons. The cult tries to free this from the depths. (NB)

Path of light

This is the religion of the Kalashtar who strive for enlightenment. (RN)

The deathless court

The elves of Aerenal worship the entirety of their ancient ancestors as deities. These continue to live among them as the deathless, what is known as the deathless court. In contrast to the undead, the deathless of the court are filled with positive energy and therefore neutral good beings. Classic undead are despised.

Each house emerged from a family whose members began to manifest a magical mark called the dragon mark on their skin. This dragon mark gives the wearer special magical abilities that determine the orientation and field of activity of the houses and make their work easier or even possible for their members.
