Ecce homo bow
The Ecce Homo Arch is located in Via Dolorosa in the old city of Jerusalem and was built in 135 AD by the Roman Emperor Hadrian after the victory over Bar Kochba . The arch is part of a three-arch system. The southern arch, however, is built into an adjacent building, the northern arch is integrated into the choir of the Ecce Homo basilica , so that both are no longer visible from the street. There are rooms above the arch; there are two windows to the east and one to the west. On the west side there is a Greek inscription, which is no longer completely preserved. It is interpreted as a passage from the Gospel according to Luke with the translation: “Away, away, crucify him!” The name Ecce-Homo-Bogen refers to the exclamation of Pontius Pilate “ Ecce homo ”.
