Echelidai
Echelidai ( Greek Ἐχελίδαι ) was an ancient Greek village in Attica . It was near the long walls in the mouth of the Kephisos in the area of the Demos Xypete . After Stephanos of Byzantium , Echelidai was a demos.
Echelidai was named after the swampy ground ( ἕλος , swamp ) or after the mythical hero Echelos ( Ἔχελος ). Walther Judeich suspected that the hippodrome of Athens was located here.
