Echo mailer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An echo mailer or mail echo is a function of individual mail servers , each of which sends a copy of the incoming e-mails for a specific address back to the sender in order to enable the sender to check it.

The sender usually receives the e-mail back in such a way that he can understand how it was received by the recipient. For example, he can see the changes made to the header by Mail Transfer Agents .

The specialty of the mail echo is that the traditional function of the bounce , which should inform about invalid addresses, is still used, but not as an error message. Because sender addresses cannot be verified, mail servers usually no longer respond automatically.
