Ecrasit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ecrasit is an explosive material that is insensitive to moisture, shock or fire. It consists of a mixture of ammonium nitrate with picric acid and was invented by Siersch and Kubin in 1888–1889. Ecrasit is made from trinitrophenol by neutralizing its saturated solution with ammonia to form a light yellow, waxy solid. It melts at around 100 ° C. It usually burns over an open flame without detonation. It is also insensitive to friction. Therefore a detonator is required.
