The Haus zum Erker (formerly also called Egglinhaus and Weibezahlhaus ) is a building in the old town of Aarau . It is located at Rathausgasse 10 and is a listed building as a cultural asset of national importance .

history

In the years 1664/65 Hans Georg Egglin had the building already located at this location completely renovated. The roof ridge was turned by 90 ° and placed across the Rathausgasse, so that the neighboring house on Kirchgasse, which also belongs to his property, could be included under the same roof. From 1534 to 1918 there was a pharmacy on the ground floor . In 1923 and 1946 the interior was converted into a modern commercial building.

Building

The four-storey building is built in the late Gothic style. The corners are reinforced with cuboids up to the second floor, the windows are profiled with walls . The third and fourth floors are half- timbered. In a abgewalmtes steep roof arches with wide cantilevered gables , the underside ( EASONS ) is painted with zodiac signs and biblical motifs.

On the south side on the first floor there is a bay window that gives the house its name; the baroque design is unique in Aarau. The bay window consists of ornamental parapet panels with a projecting cornice, beams and posts. It rests on curved brackets with putti heads and is crowned by a segmented gable, which is also curved and pierced by a rising palmette .
