Edgar Landherr

Edgar Hans Günther Landherr (born April 14, 1945 in Windsheim , Bavaria) is a German artist.

Life

Born in Mannheim, he was born in Windsheim and not in Mannheim due to the turmoil of the war. On the train journey from Mannheim to Nuremberg, the train was bombed and his mother, who was seven months pregnant, was shot in the head. His mother, Alma, miraculously survived. After severe head operations, the Mannheim native gave birth to her son in April 1945 in the hospital in what was then Windsheim, now Bad Windsheim. This happened during the evacuation of his pregnant mother and his then five-year-old sister, who were lost for 3 days during the maneuver.

Landherr grew up in Mannheim. Lived in Ludwigshafen, also in Altrip (Rhein-Pfalz district), repeatedly and currently in Mannheim. His studio is located in an industrial hall in Ludwigshafen. Edgar Landherr sees himself as an artist from the European Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. First solo exhibition at the age of 7 in his school in Mannheim-Käfertal. At the age of 13, his teachers tried to talk to his parents in order to send him to the Karlsruhe Art Academy. However, they did not give permission for this because they wanted the landlord to take up a civil profession. At the age of 18, he enlisted in a special unit of the Bundeswehr in Trier in order to escape his parents' home early. From 1964 Landherr also worked in shifts at BASF Ludwigshafen as an industrial foreman in the chemistry department. The working hours enabled him to work in his studio during the day. Today he works freelance.

Edgar Landherr is married and has three sons.
