The Edificio Santiago de Chile , also known in its original name as Edificio Tapié or Palacio Tapié , is a building in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo .

The building, which was built following a building permit from 1933 and completed in 1934, is located in Barrio Centro at Calle Constituyente 1402 , corner of Santiago de Chile 1336 . Francisco Vázquez Echeveste was responsible as the architect . The Edificio Santiago de Chile was designed as a residential and commercial building. The Banco de la Caja Obrera was initially located on the ground floor . In addition to residential apartments, it now houses office space and a branch of the Banco Comercial on the ground floor . The architecture of the building shows references to Art Deco .
