Parish widow house in Groß Zicker

The parish widow house Groß Zicker is a listed residential building in Groß Zicker , a village belonging to the Mönchgut municipality in the southeast of the island of Rügen . It was built in 1719/20, making it one of the oldest residential buildings on Rügen.

history

In 1718 the pastor of Groß Zicker, Johannes Cadow, died. According to the then common practice of preserving parish widows , an unmarried pastor should have been appointed as successor, who was supposed to marry the widow of the predecessor in order to secure their care. In the course of the Great Northern War , Rügen was occupied by Denmark at that time, and the Danish King Frederick IV rejected this approach. A married pastor was appointed and the construction of a house to take care of the parish widows was ordered.

Parish widows lived in the house until 1810. From 1811 it served as a school building and apartment for the teacher until the village got its own school building in 1830. Since then the house was rented until 1984. The Radvan family lived in the house for four generations from 1850 to 1984.

In the years 1986 to 1988 a renovation took place. Today the house is still owned by the church and is used as a museum and for art exhibitions.

Design

The parish widow's house is a Low German hall house , more precisely a two-column house , with a thatched roof (originally with a thatched roof).
