Edison Studio

Edison Studio is a composers collective and an electro-acoustic music ensemble. It was founded in Rome in 1993 by the composers Mauro Cardi, Luigi Ceccarelli, Fabio Cifariello Ciardi and Alessandro Cipriani.

Edison Studio has been active in the electro-acoustic music scene for 20 years, thanks to awards and prizes they have received for their compositions (International Computer Music Conference 1993–1995, 1997, 1999–2003, 2008, Institut international de musique électroacoustique de Bourges 1996– 1998, Main Prize Musica Nova 1996, Prague, Prix ​​Ars Electronica Prix ​​1997, 1998 etc.). Edison Studio has music productions for the Biennale di Venezia (2000 and 2001), the Ravenna Festival (1999, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2016, 2017), the RomaEuropa Festival (2016, 2017), Moscow Autumn Festival 2012, REDCAT Disney / California Institute of the Arts Theater Los Angeles 2005, a. a. realized.

Edison Studio's productions include: Zarbing, CD, published by CNI Unite, with the Persian percussionist Mahammad Ghavi-Helm, and live cinema concerts for the following silent films: The Last Days of Pompeii (1913), extortion from Alfred Hitchcock , En Dirigeable sur le Champs de Bataille , L'Inferno (1911), The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari by Robert Wiene and Battleship Potemkin by Sergei Michailowitsch Eisenstein . The last 3 soundtracks were released in 2011, 2016 and 2017 on DVD by the Cineteca di Bologna as Dolby Surround 5.1 and stereo versions in the Il Cinema Ritrovato series. The soundtracks for the silent films include voices and ambient noises in the music. Her sonic reinterpretations of the silent cinema masterpieces caught the attention of some cinema specialists such as Sergio Miceli and Giulio Latini as well as other university professors who wrote articles that were included in the book "Edison Studio, il Silent Film e l'Elettronica in Relazione Intermediale" (Edison Studio, Silent Film and Electronics in Intermediate Relationships) on the Edison Studio soundtracks, published by Exorma with the support of the University of Rome III . The soundtrack for Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari has received excellent reviews, including David Kim-Boyle in the Computer Music Journal ( MIT Press ) for the world premiere of this piece at the 2003 International Computer Music Conference at the National University of Singapore .
