Edmondson Dam

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Edmondson Dam was a dam on the Middle Fork Holston River in the US state of Virginia . It was 14.3 meters high and 118 meters long. The Edmondson Dam dammed the river over a length of 5.6 kilometers and a 35.3 hectare reservoir was created. Erected in 1921, the structure was located in Washington County about eight kilometers southwest of the village of Glade Spring . A power station on Edmondson Dam generated electricity for around forty years until it was shut down in 1963 due to maintenance problems. The dam itself remained in place for twenty more years, in 1982 it was dismantled to 4.5 meters - the height of the sediments that had accumulated behind Edmondson Dam .
