Edmund Davy

Edmund Davy (* 1785 - † November 5, 1857 ) was an Irish chemist .

He was Professor of Chemistry at the Royal Cork Institution from 1813 and at the Royal Dublin Society from 1826 .

Davy discovered the catalytic effect of platinum sponge , the rust protection through galvanizing, and was the first to synthesize ethyne (acetylene, as it was called by Marcellin Berthelot ).

Edmund Davy was a cousin of the English chemist Humphry Davy .
