Eduardo Alonso-Crespo

Eduardo Alonso-Crespo (born March 18, 1956 in San Miguel de Tucumán ) is an Argentine composer and conductor.

Alonso-Crespo studied civil engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán and obtained a diploma as a musician at the Escuela de Artes Musicales of the university. A Fulbright scholarship enabled him to stay in the USA. Here he was a student of Lukas Foss , Leonardo Balada and Samuel Jones and received a master's degree in conducting from Carnegie Mellon University . He completed his training with Max Rudolf , Gunther Schuller and Henry Holt .

He worked as conductor of the Tucumán Symphony Orchestra , for eleven years as musical director of the Carnegie Mellon Contemporary Ensemble and had guest conducts a. a. in Chile, Mexico, the USA, Portugal and France. In 1998 he made his debut at the Teatro Colón with a performance of Gustav Mahler's Fourth Symphony. He also taught as a visiting professor and professor at Carnegie Mellon University.

In addition to chamber music and symphonic works, Alonso-Crespo composed several works for the stage, including the ballet Medea (1985), an incidental music for Macbeth and the operas Juana, la loca (1991) and Putzi (2004).
