Katingsiel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Katingsiel is a place in the municipality of Tönning in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein .

location

The place is located in the area where the Eider flows into the North Sea on the Katinger Watt and is connected to the town of Garding in the middle of Eiderstedt by the southern boat trip .

history

Originally the place was called Westerkating with a small port and it contributed to the supply of the Eiderstedt peninsula. The small town was outside Napoleon's sphere of influence during the continental blockade . A Höker , two restaurants and a customs building reflected its economic importance at the time in the 19th century. With the construction of the railway line on Eiderstedt , the port lost its importance. The last merchant ship docked there in 1906. There was a connection between northern and southern boat trips, so that Katingsiel was also connected to Tönning and Tetenbüll . The connection channel no longer exists and cannot be located.

today

Today, in addition to farms, there are holiday apartments and the Andresen pub in Katingsiel. The building in which it is housed is a listed building and was a post office in the past. In the film Two for All Cases - A Song for the Murderer with Jan Fedder , the building served as a film set.
