Eduardo Cuitiño (2013)

Eduardo Cuitiño (born January 28, 1974 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan writer, essayist and mathematician who is best known for his research and publications on two historical figures: Carlos Gardel and Jack the Ripper .

biography

He graduated from the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad de la República in 2001 as a mathematician (statistics). Since then he has been a lecturer at the University of ORT-Uruguay and works as a statistician.

His interest as a researcher is to combine history with mathematics and statistics.

He became known through a report on June 24, 2012 in the daily El País from Montevideo, in which he explained why Carlos Gardel, according to his calculations, was not born in 1890, 1883 or 1884, as was debated at the time, but in early 1887 .

In May 2013 Eduardo Cuitiño published "Gardel, el muerto que habla" (Gardel: The dead man who speaks) in Fin de Siglo (the book was presented by Ing.Juan Grompone together with the writer Susana Cabrera); Here the Uruguayan writer plays with Gardel's favorite number, 48, on which he bet in his bets and which, according to Cuitiño, corresponds to Gardel's age at his death.

In his essay, the author explains that Carlos Gardel's biological peculiarities can be explained by his origin from an incestuous relationship between Carlos Escayola and María Lelia Oliva and points to his stay in Ushuaia prison and the forgery of his supposed holographic will. He also proves - on the basis of a document from 1904 - the existence of another boy, identified by documents as a Frenchman, who was brought into contact with Carlos Gardel in order to cash out his author's rights.

Gardel was arrested in 1904 in a police station in Florencio Varela ; as recorded in the files, he measured six feet. In order for this size to correspond biologically with the supposed French boy, he would in reality have to be about 1.40 meters tall.

Eduardo Cuitiño was interviewed by the press several times and his thesis received a lot of support when the municipality of Tacuarembó officially set the year 1887 as the year Gardel was born, based on what Gardel signed in all his papers: Uruguayan, born in Tacuarembó in 1887.

Eduardo Cuitiño is currently working on a new essay on the real identity of Jack the Ripper, about which he has already written a novel: "Viajando en el tiempo para atrapar a Jack el destripador" (A journey into the past in the footsteps of Jack the Ripper). Again based on his calculations, he comes to the conclusion that Jack the Ripper is none other than surgeon Stephen Herbert Appleford, who certainly did not act alone.

With his research, Eduardo Cuitiño is one of the few Latin American authors who seriously tackled the subject of Jack the Ripper, alongside the Nicaraguan Arquímedes González and the Uruguayan Gabriel Pombo .
