Edward A. Miller

Edward A. Miller is an American engineer. At General Electric, he was the chief developer of the re-entry system for the film capsules of the Corona system of spy satellites in the USA, which operated from 1959 to 1972.

In 1960, they were the first to be able to retrieve a man-made object from space: Discoverer 13 in the Pacific, Discoverer 14 was taken from the air during the descent the following year with a special aircraft, the usual procedure at Corona.

After working on Corona, he was head of the development of camera systems for the Viking Mars probes at Itek (1976).

From 1975 to 1977 he was Assistant Secretary of the US Army, where he oversaw military research programs that led to the M1 Abrams , Blackhawk and Apache helicopters and the Patriot missile defense system, among others .

In 2005 he received the Charles Stark Draper Prize , one of the highest technology awards in the USA, for his participation in the Corona project . In 1985 he became a Pioneer of Space Technology , in 1995 he received an award from the CIA for Corona and he received the Army Distinguished Civilian Service Decoration.
