Sir Edward Burnell († September 23, 1415 at Harfleur ) was an English knight .

Edward Burnell was the only son of Hugh Burnell, 2nd Baron Burnell and probably his second wife Joyce de Botetourt. In his first marriage he married Alienore Strange, in the second marriage Elizabeth de la Pole, a daughter of Michael de la Pole, 2nd Earl of Suffolk and Katherine de Stafford. As a knight in the suite of Thomas of Lancaster, 1st Duke of Clarence , Burnell took part in Henry V's campaign in France in 1415 . He fell ill and died during the siege of Harfleur . His widow married Sir Thomas Kerdeston for the second time . Burnell left three daughters:

  • Joyce Burnell (* around 1396) ⚭ Thomas Erdington
  • Katherine Burnell (ca.1407–1452) ⚭ Sir John Radcliffe
  • Margaret Burnell (* around 1409) ⚭ Sir Edmund Hungerford

Burnell's daughters became heiresses of their grandfather Hugh Burnell after his death. When the inheritance was to be distributed after his death in 1420, it turned out, however, that large parts of the estates could only be passed on in male succession, other parts of the estates such as Acton Burnell Castle were removed by William Lovel, 7th Baron Lovel , a Relatives claimed. Ultimately, Burnell's daughters inherited only a small portion of their grandfather's possessions.
