Edward McDonnell (entrepreneur)

Sir Edward McDonnell (* 1806 in Dublin ; † November 23, 1860 ibid) was an Irish entrepreneur and Lord Mayor of Dublin.

In 1849 he was knighted . The award was given to him by George Villiers, 4th Earl of Clarendon , who was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland at the time, on the occasion of the opening of the Great Southern and Western Railway . McDonnell was chairman of the Great Southern and Western Railway Company of Ireland .

McDonnell was a magistrate and councilor ( alderman ) before he finally held the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin ( Lord Mayor of Dublin ) in 1854 . As an entrepreneur, McDonnell was mainly active in paper production and trading.

Since 1832 he was married to Catharine Costigin. He died in November 1860 at the age of 54 in his Merrion Square home.
