description

The Eglinton Engine Works are located at the intersection of West Street and Cook Street off the M74 . Four brick buildings stretch along West Street . The small, one-story machine house at the north end comes from the first construction phase. It once powered the entire complex. The entrance gate closes with a semicircular combat window . The roof is slated. The adjacent four-story building comes from the same construction phase. Its west-facing facade is nine axes wide. Arched windows with keystones are installed on the ground floor . They are framed by yellow bricks, creating a color contrast to the red brick facade. 16-part lattice windows are installed on the upper floors . On the right are two two-story buildings. One is four, the southern three axes wide with a wide central arched gate.

On the north side along Cook Street is a three-story, 17-axis building. While the street-side facade is made of stone blocks, brick was used along the inner courtyard. Ten-part lattice windows were used. A former arched portal was filled with masonry and a window was inserted at this point. Cast iron pillars and wrought iron girders have been preserved in the interior .
