Line 4

This tram line was put into operation on April 14, 1897 on the Claraplatz - Klybeckschloss route and was continuously extended in the following years to the village of Kleinhüningen (August 29, 1897). Except for a short period of four years (Morgartenring - Barfüsserplatz; June 1, 1900 - October 14, 1903) tram line 4 had its "home" in Kleinhüningen, only the terminus varied:

  • Kleinhüningen - Morgartenring (October 15, 1903 - September 13, 1913)
  • Kleinhüningen - SBB railway station (September 14, 1913 - June 7, 1915)
  • Kleinhüningen - SBB railway station - Güterstrasse (June 8, 1915 - December 3, 1939)
  • Kleinhüningen - SBB train station - Thiersteinerallee (December 4, 1939 - May 6, 1945)
  • Kleinhüningen - Binningen (May 7, 1945 - October 28, 1951)
  • Kleinhüningen - SBB railway station (October 29, 1951 - October 15, 1972)

In the last few years of its existence it operated as the opposite ring line to line 1 on the route Mustermesse - Marktplatz - SBB train station - Dreirosenbrücke - Mustermesse. Since June 2, 1984 line number 4 is no longer used.

Line 5

The tram line 5 connected the Gundeli from the Güterstrasse stop with the Alsatian Saint-Louis (St. Ludwig) in 1900–1932 , and the Güterstrasse with the Alsatian Huningue (Hüningen) in 1932–1939. During the Second World War, the line only ran on the Swiss section from the Huningue border.

From 1947 the line operated again to the St. Louis border. From there there was a transfer connection to the tram to St. Louis, which also operated at first under line number 5, but was operated by St. Louis on its own and not by BVB. At the end of 1957, St. Louis switched the line to bus service.

On the Swiss section, line 5 ran unchanged from the French border to Gundeli and then on to the Bruderholz . On April 1, 1968 the line was discontinued. Since then, only a few deployment and depot courses with the line designation 5 have operated.

At the end of the 1970s there was a sporadic relief line from Bruderholz via Jakobsberg (today's line 16) and at the Heiliggeistkirche (like line 15) via Aeschenplatz a line 5 with rolling stock from lines 15/16 was run - in the morning towards town, at noon or at noon. out of town in the evening.

Line 5 is now largely covered by lines 15 and 16 (Bruderholz) and BLT line 11 (St. Louis border).

Line 7

The tram line 7 connected Riehen village of 7 August 1908 to 13 September 1913, the Isteinerstrasse later Morgartenring (September 14, 1913 - November 30, 1914). Between December 1, 1914 and August 31, 1934, the line designation 7 was only used for operational courses. Their regular use was then resumed on September 1, 1934 and designated the line between Binningen and the SBB train station (until May 6, 1945). After the war it operated between the Lysbüchel customs and Huningue (F) (July 14, 1947 - October 28, 1951), but you had to get on and off at the border for customs control. It then ran between Binningen and the Schifflände (October 29, 1951 - January 21, 1985), then was extended to Wiesenplatz during rush hour (from May 28, 1978). During the renovation of the Dorenbach Viaduct, it operated as a bus line between the SBB train station and Binningen until it was merged with Line 2 to Binningen on January 3, 1986, and was definitely set as a separate number and line number 7 was abandoned.

Line 9

From July 5, 1912 to September 30, 1915, tram line 9 was mostly run as an operational course and accordingly often changed its route. From October 1, 1915 to May 21, 1932, it drove from Morgartenring to Huningue, France, and from May 22, 1932, it ran parallel to line 6 from Allschwil to Barfüsserplatz (until December 3, 1932); z. In part via Joanniterbrücke to Wiesenplatz (May 22, 1932 - September 1, 1939) or into the Eglisee (December 4, 1939 - November 27, 1960).

From November 27, 1960 to September 8, 2017, line number 9 was no longer used for almost 57 years. One day later, line 9 experienced a renaissance as an operational line between Schifflände and Eglisee, when the central junction of the Basel tram network, the Steinenberg, had to be completely closed for three weeks due to track work. After almost six decades, it drove back part of the route on which it was used before it was discontinued.

Line 12

The tram line 12 inverted 1916 to 1978 on the route of the line 14 from / to Muttenz . Trams that only travel to Muttenz today have the number 14 with a red highlighted end point marked Muttenz.

The line experienced a brief renaissance in the winters of 2003/2004 and 2004/2005, when it operated at peak times to relieve line 14 on the Muttenz Rothausstrasse - Aeschenplatz → Theater → Heuwaage → IWB → Heiliggeistkirche → Aeschenplatz - Muttenz Rothausstrasse.
