Eia (interjection)
Eia is a Latin interjection with the meaning “ei the thousand!”, “Wohlan, auf!” The initial e is long , the i is pronounced in the intervowel position like j .
The interjection has entered various German Christmas carols . According to the German pronunciation rule, the egg becomes a diphthong . To avoid this, the spelling eja was chosen in the Catholic praise of God .
