history
The manufacture of textiles in Heiligenstadt began in 1945 with a small linen factory. With the conversion of the production conditions in the GDR , the company became VEB Eichsfelder Bekleidungswerke Heiligenstadt within the Combine Upper Clothing Erfurt . In 1988 over 1400 people were employed in the Heiligenstadt plant and its parts of the business. With the reunification of Germany , the company was privatized, production was severely restricted and numerous parts of the company were closed. Some smaller successor companies then continued to manufacture textiles.
Operating locations and product range
The Heiligenstadt clothing factory had production sites in the following locations in the Obereichsfeld and beyond: Steinbach, Wingerode, Ershausen, Geisleden, Ellrich, Nordhausen. Among other things, bed linen, outerwear, sports shirts, FDJ shirts , pioneer blouses and service shirts were manufactured under the brand name Eichsfeld Konfektion .

From 1955 to 1990, “Der Leitfaden” was published as a company newspaper of the SED's party organization for employees in the clothing factory.
