Federal Yodelling Association

The Federal Yodelling Association is the umbrella organization of the Swiss associations of yodellers , alphorn players and flag wingers .

The Swiss yodelling association founded in 1910 on the initiative of the Bernese “yodelling father” Oskar Friedrich Schmalz and renamed the Swiss yodelling association in 1932 has 18,653 members (as of March 2012). The association is divided into five sub-associations:

  • Bernisch-Kantonaler Jodlerverband (BKJV), founded in 1917. It covers the entire canton of Bern.
  • Zentralschweizerischer Jodlerverband (ZSJV), founded in 1922. It comprises the cantons of Uri, Schwyz, Nidwalden and Obwalden, Lucerne, Zug and Ticino.
  • Northeast Swiss Yodelling Association (NOSJV), founded in 1932. It comprises the cantons of Appenzell IR, Appenzell AR, St. Gallen, Thurgau, Graubünden, Glarus, Zurich, Schaffhausen and the Principality of Liechtenstein
  • Northwest Swiss Yodelling Association (NWSJV), founded in 1935. It comprises the cantons of Aargau, Solothurn, Basel-Land and Basel-Stadt.
  • West Swiss Yodelling Association (WSJV), founded in 1937. It includes the cantons of Friborg, Geneva, Jura, Neuchâtel, Vaud and Valais.

In addition, fourteen groups of the Swiss Abroad from America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa are affiliated with the association.

The association regularly offers courses for yodellers, yodel conductors, alphorn players and flag throwers. The association organizes the three-day federal yodelling festivals every three years . These last took place in 2005 in Aarau , 2008 in Lucerne , 2011 in Interlaken and 2014 in Davos . It is a major event with 15,000 participants and 200,000 visitors. The Federal Yodelling Association is one of the organizers of the Unspunnen Festival .
