HMS Tenedos

Several warships of the British Royal Navy were named HMS Tenedos after the Greek name of the island of Bozcaada in the Aegean Sea, which today belongs to Turkey

  • The first HMS Tenedos was a 5th class warship frigate with 38 guns, completed in 1812 and scrapped in 1875. She took part in the Napoleonic Wars and the war of 1812 with the United States.
  • The second HMS Tenedos was a wooden corvette of the (first) Eclipse class with 1755 tons displacement, screw drive and 6 cannons, which was completed in 1870 and retired in 1887.
  • The third HMS Tenedos was originally called HMS Triumph and was an ironclad that was launched in 1870. In 1904 she was renamed as a depot ship in HMS Tenedos , later used as a training ship, was named HMS Indus in 1912 and HMS Algiers in 1915 . The ship was sold for scrapping in 1914.
  • The fourth HMS Tenedos was originally called HMS Ganges and was a second class ship of the line with 84 guns that was launched in 1821. She was used as a training ship in Falmouth since 1865, renamed HMS Tenedos in 1906 , was named HMS Indus in 1910 and HMS Impregnable in 1922 . The ship was retired in 1929.
  • The fifth HMS Tenedos (H04) was a destroyer of the S-Class . It was launched in 1918 and sunk by Japanese fighter planes near Colombo in 1942.
