Federal Song Festival 1843

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1st Federal Singing Festival took place on June 25th and 26th, 1843 in Zurich . After the Federal Singers' Association (now the Swiss Choir Association ) was founded in June 1842, it was the first federal festival to celebrate the emerging (male) choir culture of the 19th century. A total of 2100 singers took part in 80 clubs.

The festival was organized by the Zurich Singers 'Association (now the Harmonie Zurich Concert Choir), which had split off from the Zurich City Singers' Association (now the Zurich Men's Choir) just two years earlier. It was merged with the annual festival of the singers' association on Lake Zurich (today Lake Zurich Choir Association). The festival hut stood at what is now the Old Botanical Garden , and the singing performances were held in the Fraumünster .

The Zurich government councilor Ulrich Zehnder acted as party president and also president of the jury . The festival director of the overall performance was the head of "Harmonie" Wilhelm Krausskopf .
