Federal Song Festival 1856

The 7th Federal Singers' Festival took place on July 12-14, 1856 in St. Gallen . For the first time, the festival took place over three days and two competition categories (folk song and art song) were introduced. A total of 1700 singers took part in 55 clubs, as well as 14 guest clubs from Germany and, for the first time, from Austria. The festival was organized by the male choir Frohsinn St. Gallen.

The St. Gallen Landammann Arnold Otto Aepli acted as party president . The president of the jury was the Wettinger music director Johann Daniel Elster , the festival director of the overall performance was the St. Gallen choir director Bernhard Bogler .
