Hanging the egg crown for the Bonn district Küdinghoven

The egg crown is a crown-like spring ornament decorated with eggs , which has been preserved in regions of the Rhineland . It is made in May by the bachelors of a village and hung next to the maypole . It is a christianized fertility custom that was often transferred to both Easter and Pentecost .

The crown of eggs originally stayed hanging until the first harvest wagon had passed under it. (The maypole also stayed that way.)

The world's largest egg crown is to be made and hung every year in Bendorf am Rhein. It consists of 25,000 blown eggs and is built by the crown builders of the KUK Kirmes- und Karnevalsgesellschaft and the Kirmesjugend. On the second Saturday after Pentecost, it is then driven through the city and pulled up and fastened to the 30 meter high fair tree.
