Eilífr Goðrúnarson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eilífr Goðrúnarson was an Icelandic skald (poet) of the 10th and early 11th centuries. He worked at the court of Ladejarls Hákon ( Håkon Jarl ) in Norway. Eilífr also wrote poems with pagan mythical material and poems with Christian content.

Biographical data have only been handed down in rudimentary form from Snorri Sturluson in the Skáldatal (Skalden directory). Accordingly, Eilífr, still connected to the conventional pagan belief, was between 970 and 995 at the court of Håkon Jarls in Lade, where he wrote the price songs for the god Thor , the Þórsdrápa . He must have converted to Christianity later because of Christian material in his traditional poetry.
