Hermann Pálsson
Hermann Pálsson (born May 26, 1921 at Sauðanes á Ásum's farm near Blönduós ; † August 11, 2002 in Burgas , Bulgaria ) was an Icelandic Celtologist , Scandinavian scholar and translator.
Hermann Pálsson completed a university education in Akureyri in 1943 and then graduated from the University of Iceland in 1947 . He then studied Celtology in Ireland at the National University of Ireland in Dublin . From 1950 he taught English at the University of Edinburgh , first as an assistant professor, then for many years as a professor . From 1982 he mainly devoted himself to scientific research and work until he retired in 1988. He was also visiting professor at the University of Toronto and Berkeley University for a while.
Hermann Pálsson wrote several books and writings and translated, often in collaboration with Magnus Magnusson or Paul Edwards , around 40 works of medieval Icelandic literature into other languages.
He was married to Gudrun Þorvarðardóttir (* 1927), with whom he had a daughter. Hermann Pálsson died in an accident in Burgas in Bulgaria.
