The National University of Ireland ( Irish Ollscoil na hÉireann ) is a state university system based in Dublin . It consists of four constituent universities and five accredited colleges and is Ireland's largest university. It was established by the Irish Universities Act, 1908 , significantly amended by the Universities Act, 1997 .
