It is not a novel , like almost all of his other well-known books, but a report . It is about the Swiss officer Jean-Louis Jeanmaire , who was convicted of treason . Le Carré carried out some research and, in addition to real interviews, developed in the book a possible variant of the events that drove the officer and his wife into the arms of the Soviet secret service.
