A church of fear of the stranger in me

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A church of fear of the foreign in me is a " Fluxus - Oratorio " by Christoph Schlingensief . The world premiere took place on September 21, 2008 in the blower hall in the Duisburg-Nord landscape park on the occasion of the RuhrTriennale 2008. The play was selected for the Berlin Theatertreffen 2009 as one of the ten “most remarkable productions” of 2008 and opened the program.

Rüdiger Schaper wrote in Die Zeit online: “Schlingensief released these forces in the Church of Fear. A requiem , a syncretic mass, a purgatory in which the vanities of a provocative artist burn up. The original location, the old blower hall in the Duisburg industrial park, indicates that this is not about an individual fate either. It is played for the survival of opera and theater in an abandoned cathedral of German capitalism. "

In the work, Schlingensief addresses his lung cancer , which he learned about in early 2008 and from which he died in August 2010.
