Another World (Philip K. Dick)

Another world ( Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said ) is the German title of a science fiction novel by the American author Philip K. Dick from 1974. In it, Dick describes the experiences of Jason Taverner, a singer and Entertainer who gets into another reality ( parallel world ) through the effects of the reality-changing drug mentioned in the novel "KR 3" .

Jason Taverner, the audience favorite of 30 million television viewers, is murdered after one of his weekly appearances on the "Jason Taverner Show". Taverner is critically injured and taken to a hospital, where he loses consciousness. When he wakes up, he finds himself in an unfamiliar shabby hotel room. After unsuccessful efforts to get in touch with his agent, attorney and partner, he gradually realizes that he is in a different reality. In a world that resembles the one in which he was previously a prominent, rich and carefree citizen, he now experiences as an unidentified nobody what it is like to be under the observation of an Orwellian (see 1984 ) surveillance apparatus. In his search for a way out of this nightmarish situation, he discovers the connections between the effects of the reality-changing drug "KR 3" and his own situation. With the indirect help of the twin sister of a powerful police general, he finally succeeds in returning to his original reality.

Award

The novel won the 1975 John W. Campbell Memorial Award for best novel . He was also nominated for the Nebula Award and Hugo Award .
