Shipbuilding forms

Monohull is a term for boats that have only one hull . Since this is by far the most common design of boats and ships, this term is mainly used when an explicit distinction from multihulls is necessary.

Monohull boats can be built with both dimensional and weight stability , while multihull boats are dimensionally stable. Most motor boats and all dinghies are dimensionally stable, while sailing yachts have a heavy ballast keel and are therefore built with stable weight.
