Route

The Ashgabat monorail is located in the Olympic Village of Ashgabat . It was built from 2012 by the Turkish construction company Polimeks . 25-meter-long rail vehicles from the Swiss rail vehicle manufacturer Intamin are used on it.

history

In the park around the Olympic Stadium, the monorail connects thirty venues of the 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games , which were held in 2017 on the outskirts of Ashgabat in Turkmenistan.

Construction of the line began in June 2012. Intamin designed and built the trains. The elevated ring section has a length of 5200 meters, 550 meters of which run in the depot and the depot. It connects the main stadium, the athletes' village, a cycling hall, the water sports center, the athletics hall, the tennis center, training halls, the medical rehabilitation center as well as the hotel and press center, and restaurant. It also leads to open-air venues as well as some cafes and parking lots.

The maiden voyage was carried out in May 2017.

route

The route consists of industrially manufactured steel girders on reinforced concrete pillars concreted on site. It runs at a height of six to twenty meters above the ground. There are eight stations along the route. Two bridges, architecturally lavishly designed in the style of the Olympic rings, cross Ataturkstrasse. The Turkmen law prescribes rescue footpaths on both sides of the route, which were carried out with curved steel railings.

Rail vehicles

Trains

There are electrically powered trains of the P30 / 90 series with a capacity of ninety passengers each, which serve eight stations on the route and can transport up to 1200 passengers per hour. Although the trains can reach a top speed of 70 km / h, they are typically operated at a cruising speed of 46 km / h. This enables the train to travel the eight-station route in seventeen minutes. Three trains can run on the route at the same time.

Monorail service vehicle

A diesel-hydraulic service vehicle for maneuvering and evacuating as well as for cleaning, maintenance and repair work on the monorail was supplied by the Swiss company ATP Hydraulik. It is only powered hydraulically without electricity. The emergency functions of the monorail are maintained by an emergency power generator in the service vehicle.

The maximum drag force is 120,000 Newtons. The drive wheels are pressed against the side of the rail with hydraulic cylinders with a force of up to 100,000 Newtons in order to transfer the force to the rail. The service vehicle drives in both directions with no load at a maximum speed of 15 km / h. When towing a monorail train, a maximum of 7 km / h is reached. The service vehicle is controlled with a mobile control unit. The hydraulic circuit with a maximum operating pressure of 420 bar was built up from pipes and hoses with a nominal diameter of 40 mm and has a volume of 300 liters. High-pressure jets and 4 large brushes are used to clean the rails. A crane can be used to lower workers in order to visually inspect, maintain and, if necessary, repair the girders of the monorail from the sides and below.
