Peter Philippe Weiss

Peter Philippe Weiss (born October 2, 1962 in Basel ) is a Swiss composer, sound designer, sound and performance artist , lecturer and author.

Career

In 2004, Peter Philippe Weiss founded Corporate Sound AG, creating the world's first professional communication agency for acoustic branding and writing the first publication on this topic with the title "Corporate Sound - Marketing Instrument of the Future?" In Thexis-Verlag of the University of St Gallen . With his agency he realizes acoustic brand appearances for numerous international companies. As a music and sound designer, he also realizes projects in the areas of film music, exhibitions, museums, events and product design. In 2009 Corporate Sound AG received the “Red Dot Design Award” for sound branding. He has been a member of the Red Dot Design Awards jury since 2013.

In the same year he and Burkhard von Dallwitz wrote the soundtrack for the movie Manipulation (2011) with Klaus-Maria Brandauer and Sebastian Koch in the leading roles.

Since 2015, Weiss has also carried out workshops on vision and corporate culture formation as well as creative workshops with cineastic vision trips, in which he makes the hidden potential of the organization and its employees visible and tangible.

In 2015 he published the book “When design leaves matter - sound. The design of emotions, imagination and liveliness ”.

Peter Philippe Weiss works as a consultant, sound designer, sound artist and lecturer. He lives and works in Basel and Berlin.

A 10-year classical violin training and the musical instruments learned in self-study acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, drums, percussion and keyboards form the musical basis. He played these instruments in various bands and formations. In 1991 he played in the Canadian performance band 'The Look People' as a guest musician (key, viol). He toured internationally with this band and performed at many festivals and stages at St. Gallen Open Air, at the CBGB's in New York and at the 'Diamonds' in Toronto. In the area of ​​composition and sound installations, Weiss increasingly includes non-musical, noisy and scenic sounds in his compositions.

In 2002 he composed and produced a private edition of a contemplative CD "zen jazz", a sound-oriented jazz lounge oeuvre with guest musicians from all over Switzerland. In 2006 he produced an acoustic portrait of his favorite restaurant in Basel with the CD “Bodega”.

In 2005 he realized his first major sound art project on his own: HEADROOM, a city sound installation in public space in Basel with 16 different sound sources and an output of around 20,000 watts. In the middle of the city center he 'placed' new 'rooms' in the existing sound environment with highly realistic soundscapes. Two years later, on the occasion of the 2nd audio forum of the University of Osnabrück, he let out the gullies of the Osnabrück market square, 'Underworlds'. In August 2009 the 'Underworlds' sounded in a new form and in cooperation with the Association of the Hard of Hearing in downtown Basel.

His art project of the live radio play / audio film began in 1992 with "Bistro d'histoire", which he realized with four fellow musicians and an actor in the disused cinema "Movie" in Basel. "Zzzip ... ... ooOH?!?" Followed in 2002, a Musicomix band with Hugo Buser and Longo Hai and concerts in Switzerland. In 2008 Weiss realized his first solo performance with "mindgames", a storytelling soundscape show. He has been working under the stage name TRÄUMER since 2014. In 2015 he realized his first Swiss performance series.
