Torsten Tomczak

Torsten Tomczak (born September 8, 1959 in West Berlin as Torsten Rudolf Dieter Tomczak ; resident in Zurich ) is a Swiss business economist who also has German citizenship . He is a professor of business administration with a special focus on marketing at the University of St. Gallen , where he heads the Institute for Customer Insight.

Life

Education and professional career

After graduating from high school, Tomczak wanted to study archeology , but ended up in business administration and finally in marketing . Tomczak graduated from the Free University of Berlin with a degree in business administration in 1984, received his doctorate in 1989 and qualified as a professor in 1992 .

After completing his studies, Tomczak went to work in his parents' trading company that sold dairy products . After working for an advertising agency , his doctoral supervisor recommended a post-doc position at the University of St. Gallen . From 1991 to 1993 he was a private lecturer at the University of St. Gallen, from 1993 to 1995 associate professor and since 1995 full professor . From 2007 to 2009 Tomczak was dean of the business administration department at the University of St. Gallen. From 2011 to 2014 he was Vice Rector of the university.

In 2019 Tomczak received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lucerne .

He researches brand management and strategic marketing . As an author and co-author , he has written around 35 books and 300 specialist articles.

music

Music is Tomczak's great passion. Tomczak plays guitar and keyboard . Together with the university professors Kuno Schedler and Oliver Gassmann he forms the band B110 , which produced the anthem of the University of St. Gallen with Tanja La Croix .

Private

In his free time, Tomczak is particularly enthusiastic about football : he is a fan of Hertha BSC .
