Kuno Schedler

Kuno Schedler (born October 19, 1961 in St. Gallen ; resident in Uzwil ) is a Swiss business economist. Since 2015, he has been Vice President of the University of St. Gallen, responsible for Research & Faculty . Schedler is a professor of business administration with a special focus on public management at the Institute for Systemic Management and Public Governance at the University of St. Gallen.

Life

Kuno Schedler worked for the Swiss Bank Corporation, now UBS , from 1981 to 1989 . Schedler studied banking at the University of St. Gallen and obtained a licentiate in 1987 . In 1993 he was awarded the doctorate degree . He worked as a headhunter in Zurich for several years .

Since 1996 he has been Professor of Business Administration in Public Institutions ( Public Management ) at the University of St. Gallen . There he is director at the Institute for Systematic Management and Public Governance . Among other things, he deals with the question of how public companies must be run, controlled and supervised so that they meet the requirements of both the state and the market. At his institute he founded the Smart Government Lab , in which the effects of smart technologies on public administration are researched.

From 2004 to 2013 Schedler was director of the Sino-Swiss Management Training Program , a large-scale training program for Chinese management officials. From 2008 to 2010 he was President of the International Public Management Network . From 2009 to 2011 he was a professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University .

Research and Impact

Schedler has made a name for itself in the German-speaking area above all as a promoter and co-developer of impact-oriented administrative management ( New Public Management ). Many of his publications deal with this state and administrative reform.

Schedler is considered an interdisciplinary researcher and active sponsor of the so-called St. Gallen School of Public Management. This school understands public management comprehensively, also includes political and legal aspects as equal in the conception and analysis of administrative reform, and is therefore close to public governance in terms of content .

Schedler's work has had a major impact on the practical development of public management in Switzerland. Between 1993 and 2000 he worked as an expert on several reform projects for the NPM. Later he helped shape the reform of the federal accounting model.

Mandates and engagements

Kuno Schedler is a committee member of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss National Science Foundation for the Promotion of Scientific Research and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Student Housing Foundation , with two of them jointly signing.

He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss Paraplegic Research AG in Nottwil .

On January 1, 2000 Schedler Kuno was promoted to major in the transmission troops (promotion in the officer corps).

Private

Kuno Schedler is married and has two children. Together with Torsten Tomczak and Oliver Gassmann, he is a singer and guitarist in the professorial band B110 , which produced the HSG song in 2014 together with Tanja La Croix .
