Manor Art Prize
The Manor Art Prize is a prize in the field of fine arts without the possibility of self-application, which is awarded every two years by the Swiss department store chain Manor in cooperation with art museums in 12 cities. Young, little-known artists from Switzerland are to be promoted and their work presented to a wider public.
History and meaning
On the occasion of the reopening of the renovated Nordmann department store in Lucerne, Philippe Nordmann founded the art prize. Over time, more and more cities have been added, most recently Lugano in 2005, Sion in 2007 and Biel in 2009. While the prize was awarded annually until 1990, it has only been awarded every two years since 1991 until today. Some cities award the prize in even years, some in odd years. Since individual places occasionally skip a year, however, there are shifts.
In Switzerland, the prize has a good reputation, which is due, among other things, to the fact that the prize is not used commercially. For some artists, the award also contributed to the international breakthrough.
price

Conditions of participation
The participants, who can come from all areas of the visual arts, are selected by the museum directors of the respective region. The candidates must already be active in a field of the visual arts, must not be older than 40 years and must come from the relevant canton or have been resident there for at least 5 years.
The decision-making body consists of an artist who is more than 40 years old, a local art expert (from the city or canton), an art historian and two representatives from the Manor company.
