Silvia Bächli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silvia Bächli (born March 16, 1956 in Baden , Switzerland ) is a visual artist and mainly worked as a draftsman .

life and work

Bächli studied from 1976 to 1980 at the Basel School of Design and at the École Superieure d'Arts Visuels in Geneva . Her involvement with the medium of drawing, which has continued since the late 1970s, takes on obvious things and gestures. The limitation of the means - gouache , oil pastel or ink on paper of different sizes - allows the artist to condense her observations by hand and sparingly. Mostly applied with diluted black water-based paint, strokes, lines and spots coagulate into concentrated visual events: dosed moments of memory that sometimes measure against the body, sometimes against horizon lines, sometimes against open structures.

Bächli lives and works in Basel and Paris . Since 1993 she has been a professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe .
